School staff duct-taped girl with Down syndrome to her shoes
Wed Feb 6, 2013
@ Liza Null - please don't lump all teachers in with these people. Most teachers would be appalled it they saw this. If this girl stays in this special needs class, no one but the staffers really would have a chance to see this.
What does love mean to you? We want to know!
Thu Jan 31, 2013
I'll be honest, I'm not the lovey-dovey type, so I can't give you a sweet story like everyone else is doing (don't get be wrong, I said "aww" too... I just can't write one!) To me, love is about respect. I'm not talking about demanding respect, but rather how respect plays a part in every other aspe …
Couple glues 60,000 pennies to bedroom floor
Mon Jan 21, 2013
That is really awesome. I love anything DIY done in copper. IMHO it's the most attractive material you can use - especially if you use the different chemicals that it reacts to in different vivid colors.
Mom worries about sexism when preschool teaches boys to be 'gentlemen'
Tue Jan 15, 2013
There's a difference between physical differences and social differences. This mother was concerned about the teacher instilling ideas of social differences in her boy. I would never try to play football with a man, but I do expect to be on level playing ground socially. I will hold the door open, a …
106 baby chicks get lost in the mail, visit the nation's capital
Fri Jan 11, 2013
@winsettz - newly hatched chicks are shipped because they can live without food and water for a couple of days. Once they've used up what they absorbed in the egg, however, they're much more likely to die of hunger or thirst while in transit.

WOW she's talented. She taught herself?! And such pretty eyes! Kat Von D and Snow White are my favorites.
Maryland first-grader suspended for pointing fingers at friends, saying 'pow'
Wed Jan 2, 2013
Two options: 1) The kid was either intentionally imitating the Newtown incident (being a smart alec or class clown), or he was actually threatening another child. In this case the kid was not suspended for saying "pow," but for the overall behavior. Which means the school did the right thing in susp …
No excuse for a cupcake: A few extra pounds linked to lower death risk
Wed Jan 2, 2013
Agreed. A more accurate depiction would be recording body fat content (using calipers), or both fat content and BMI.
Not just child's play: Don't take away recess, docs argue
Mon Dec 31, 2012
It's not the technology's fault. Technology is in fact a very useful teaching mechanism, when used as such. But more often its used as a babysitter when parents hand over their iphone for their talkative toddler to play a "mind-numbing" game. Parents should encourage their children to be active. Reg …
Anchor called too fat for TV is now international role model
Fri Dec 28, 2012
It's not just about "eating." There are real medical conditions, that don't get addressed because people feel bad about going to the doctor and getting looked down on for their weight. And your attitude, Mr. Redner, doesn't help.
